GWINN -- Crews were busy clearing sewage lines in Gwinn Wednesday after a blockage caused raw sewage to spill into the Escanaba River. The backup was noticed shortly before 3 p.m., and crews had it stopped within an hour.
About three to five gallons of sewage was flowing into the river every minute, but it's unclear just how much sewage actually got into the river.
The DEQ was notified and city crews quickly got to work cleaning the lines. They expected to have the mess cleaned up in about two hours.
Officials say the blockage didn't cause any disruptions to residents.
