MARQUETTE -- Lakeview Arena went to the dogs over the weekend.

It was the 34th Annual Marquette County Kennel Club Dog Show.

More than 470 dogs representing 120 different breeds competed in the the three-day competition.

A local favorite was an English cocker spaniel named Willie, who was bred and born in Gwinn, but who wins "best in show" is up to the judges.

"You try to judge on breed specific characteristics, in other words, those things which make a doberman pinscher different from a boxer," said judge Edd Bivin.

Organizers were pleased with this year's turnout, which was up nearly 100 dogs each day of the show.
