KINGSFORD -- Although the first day of school is still a few weeks away, the new centralized business office at Woodland Elementary in Kingsford is up and running.
It's the first of its kind in the State of Michigan.
I was an open house to tour the new office, which combines business staff from Breitung Township Schools, Iron Mountain Public Schools, Iron Mountain/Kingsford Community Schools, and the Dickinson/Iron ISD.
Instead of having a business manager for each unit, one person will be in charge of an eight-member staff that will control business affairs for all the schools.
The cost cutting measure will save between $150,000 to $200,000 combined.
"We're looking at this as a new innovated way of doing business services," said Wendy Warmuth, Director of Finance. "Some consolidations in the other districts happened, but in a different manner, and we feel this is one of the most effective ways of doing it and being cost efficient."
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8.
