MORAN TOWNSHIP -- Two people are dead in Mackinac County after an apparent drowning.

According to the State Police, a 16 year old from Gaylord was overcome by large waves while standing in Lake Michigan in Moran Township.

The victim's grandfather, a 66-year-old Gaylord man, attempted to save his grandson, but was also driven under water by large waves.

Both victims were retrieved from the lake and were transported to Straits Area Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
