KEWEENAW PENINSULA -- Here in the UP, owners of 11 properties in the Keweenaw National Historical Park got some good economic news Thursday.

The National Park Service has awarded them grants to develop and enhance their historical properties.

The property owners were required to match, dollar-for-dollar, the park service grants.

Other grant money being handed down from the park service includes Franklin Township, who is getting money to provide security lighting and other security measures at the Quincy Smelter.

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association is getting grant money for archeology related to the Railroad Roundhouse restoration project, and the Michigan House in Calumet is getting money for window restoration of their historic building.

Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne’s Church will also see $7,500 to make the historical center handicap accessible.
