The lack of summer-like weather has decreased the number of campers staying at area parks.

BIG BAY -- This year's summer hasn't been among the warmest or sunniest, and so far, the weather has hindered some people's vacation plans.
At Perkins Park in Big Bay, numbers have been down for most of the season.
Despite the state park closures across Upper Michigan, and residents looking at camping as an affordable vacation, many of Perkins' sites have stayed empty.
The 4th of July weekend was no exception as the holiday crowd just didn't show up.
"Most years we're full on the holiday weekends," said John Bourgeois of Perkins Park. "This year on the 4th of July we had a lot of sites open."
There is still hope for a turnaround though; the park is booked during Labor Day weekend, and that's not the last weekend to camp at Perkins Park, which stays open through mid-October.
