NEGAUNEE -- Fire departments from across Marquette County gathered Saturday on the shore of Teal Lake, not to battle a blaze, but to fight one another.

The annual Pioneer Days' Firefighters Tournament encompasses four different races, each one testing a department's skills.

Win or lose, the competition proves to be a fun day for everyone involved; but make no mistake about it, bragging rights are on the line.

"We're doing okay," said Brian Mattila of the Champion-Humboldt Fire Department.  "We have a couple of new members competing for the first time, but overall we usually compete pretty strong.  We're out here for fun today."

Most departments says this event is good practice for the bigger U.P. Firefighters Tournament.

The winner of Saturday's competition was the Chocolay Township Fire Department.
