HOUGHTON COUNTY -- The case against one of the four people accused of trying to smuggle marijuana and prescription drugs into an inmate at Camp Kitwen Prison Camp last month was dismissed Friday.

Houghton County Prosecutor Michael Makkinen says Gene Nichols didn't know about the plans until the group was enroute to the U.P. from Lansing.

The other three defendants, Sue Ann Balwin of Perry, Janet Lee Nichols of Lansing, and Amy Lynn Nichols of Lansing waived their arraignment by mail today.

Not guilty pleas were entered on their behalf.

Pre-trial conferences have yet to be scheduled.
