SAND POINT -- Kids in Alger County learned to appreciate the wonders of Lake Superior Wednesday afternoon.

The theme was Land and Water Fun in the 9th annual Life of Lake Superior program.

Fifty kids from ages nine to fourteen spent the day enjoying kayaking, birch bark art, and cooking a meal over the fire.

Organizers hope the free program will show the kids what a great area we live in.

"It's an opportunity to get kids outdoors, having fun, learning, while they're having fun and appreciating their personal surroundings," said Extension Educator Joan Vinette.

During the rest of the sessions, the kids will travel to Miner's Castle, Grand Island, and Trenary.

Our daughter has attended this program for two years and it is wonderful! It gets the children together and gives them a fantastic opportunity to explore the wonderous nature surrounding them. Thank you to all who organize it and help to keep things running smoothly.
