NEGAUNEE TWP. -- We are happy to report that some satellite television subscribers will be able to receive TV6 and other local channels this week.
DISH Network, one of two U.P. satellite providers, will be launching local stations in the market starting Wednesday evening.
After eight years of lobbying for the change, viewers and TV stations are excited.
"Well the impact for TV6 and the other local stations is that our coverage will increase by quite a bit in areas we've never been able to reach before--that really hardly anyone has been able to reach before--but with a small two foot dish mounted on or at the peak of your house, you'll be able to get all of your local stations clear as a bell," says TV6 Chief Engineer Sonny Reschka.
According to Stacey Conway, General Manager of Local Programming at DISH, customers will need to call to have the services added to their account.
In the email, she also adds that some customers will need an antenna and/or receiver upgrade, and that DISH agents are prepared to schedule those upgrades.
The channels should be available by 7:00 p.m. eastern time on July 8. To contact DISH to start receiving local channels, you can call your local DISH Network representative, or contact DISH 1-888-825-2557 or visit their website.
As for DirecTV customers, they're expected to be offered to local stations by the end of the summer.
