maybe common sense

I thought it was common sense to watch for animals when driving. Its the same as watching out for the idiots who pull out right in front of you, make you slam on your brakes and swerve to avoid hitting them when there's not a car behind you for 1/2 a mile.

Need a few signs

IF this moose/car accident was where I think it was, there are always moose in that area and they are sighted there alot. There is a place near the Baraga/Iron County lines where moose hang out and it is not uncommon to see people stopped alongside the road, watching them from a distance. There really should be Moose crossing signs to alert people who are not from around there that moose frequent the area. I know when I've traveled to the northern parts of Minnesota---long ago---whenever I saw a moose crossing sign, I tended to drive a bit more cautiously and knew to keep my eyes out for them. In fact, I've nearly hit moose twice now but because I knew they were around, I was driving a bit more cautiously and, I think, that's why I was lucky enough not to strike them with my vehicle.

Accidents can happen anywhere and animals can pop out of the roadside brush at any time, but when you're in an unfamiliar area, having a sign to alert you to their presence MAY help prevent an accident or two.

close call in Aura

Posted by mathew brogan, Saint Paul MN - Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 12:54 a.m.

Had a close call this past Friday morning in Aura (Baraga County) with a moose. That thing would have taken out my 1984 Olds with a quickness.

God Bless the U.P.!
