IRON MOUNTAIN -- "There's always something you can knit and do," said Lynn Sand about her passion.

They're words that Lynn sand takes very seriously--she has taken her lifelong love for knitting and uses it to help others. She has knitted projects for service organizations all over Dickinson County and has even created sweaters that are sent all over the world for children in need.

"In 10 years, over a million sweaters have been knit by people like me and it's just so invigorating to know that there's that response, that you can help other people," she said.

One of Lynn's many projects is knitting caps for local chemotherapy and leukemia patients. And her passion for helping others has become infectious. She's gotten members of the Dickinson County Library's knitting program to join her in her generosity and now they're knitting hats, too.

Lynn also teaches classes to get children interested in knitting.

"One day her husband came in and I said, 'what's Lynn been up to?'" explained teen services director Linda DeFresne. "He said, 'well, she's home knitting.' and I said, 'really? she's knitting? how would she like to help?'"

Lynn's donations are anonymous, but she gets a sense of gratification in her work.

"I have recognized my pattern and my work on someone who's out on the street and I just got goosebumps," Lynn said.

Helping others, whether it's through donations or just sharing her love of knitting is the driving force behind Lynn's work--one stitch at a time.
