IRONWOOD TWP. -- A recall effort is moving ahead in Ironwood Township.

The language on the petition to recall Township Supervisor Kim Mattson was approved on Tuesday.

This means the group, Township Citizens for Change, may now begin collecting signatures.  They will need 262 valid signatures for the recall to make it to an election.

If they want to get the issue before voters on the November ballot, they must have the signatures submitted to the Gogebic County Clerk's Office by July 31.

Five points against Mattson are listed on the recall.

Ironwood Township Recall

Yes, Kim Mattson is my younger sister. I am very proud to say that. She has my total respect. She is trying so hard to make things better for the township. She has an open-door policy. Anyone that has a problem can come into the office and talk to her. The people that Mr. Simmons has talked to have no idea how hard she works and what she is trying to do for the township. Please, don't make a mistake by listening to Mr. Simmons. The township will be the loser in the long run.

First of all, Sherri Rock should have stated in her first sentence that she is Kim Mattson's older sister! I don't blame her for standing up for her younger sister because families often do that. As they say, "blood is thicker than water."

However, Ms. Rock is wrong when she states that Simmons backs down or has a problem with a woman in charge. Nothing can be further from the truth. Mr. Simmons, a retired army military veteran who served both active duty and the Michigan National Guard, has a high level of integrity. I have served our state and country with Sergeant First Class Simmons and he has always stood up for what is right, no matter what the cost. People in the township are getting to know him better as he visits the folks from house to house. He is not afraid to defend his position, but is also respectful to those who don't share his view.

The Ironwood Daily Globe has been fair to both sides in its coverage. That is exactly what a newspaper is supposed to do. The website Ms. Rock mentions resorts to name-calling, is childish, and a turn-off for those who have more than a room temperature IQ.

If Simmons would get his facts right, he would see what a great job Kim Mattson is doing. From the day she was elected, he has done nothing but bring false allegations against her. Apparently, he has a problem with a woman being in charge, as he always backs down from the men on the board. Get the facts. Go to ironwoodinfo.com. They speak the truth.
