Three were injured after lighting a fire in a pit that covered the gas container.
ONTONAGON COUNTY -- Three teenage students from a Phillips Wisconsin School were injured recently at the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park.
According to an official with the park, a butane canister exploded in a back country fire pit.
The three needed some medical attention at the time of the May 16 incident. They are fine today.
The student group has been coming to the park for 15 years. They were camping at the mouth of Little Carp River where there's a fire ring. When they started a fire, the canister blew up.
Park officials are now warning all campers to check fire rings before using them. They're also checking more than 200 fire rings throughout the park for any problems.
