HANCOCK -- Leo Mattila is one of nine Mattila brothers from the Copper Country to serve in the military.

"Dad had five sons in World War II in that one time," explained Leo, "and fortunately they all came home and I'm the youngest of the nine boys."

Ranging from age 70 to 92---4 of the 5 brothers still living were honored as Grand Marshals of Saturday's Parade of Thanks in Hancock.

"It's quite an honor," said Sanfred Mattila.  "Boy I'll tell ya, you don't get this too often."

The 4th annual Parade of Thanks was a time to honor all veterans and active military men and women.  And the cold, windy weather almost cancelled the entire event.

"When I got the call from Dennis asking if we should call the parade or not," said organizer Denise Moyle, "I said you know the troops don't get to pick their days."

More than 200 local organizations and businesses marched to say thank you to all those who serve our country.  The Mattila brothers say they're honored to be part of the event, and their brothers who are no longer with us, would be proud.
