HOUGHTON -- People around the UP hopped on bicycles for their morning and evening commute, as part of national Bike to Work Day.

It's the first time Houghton has planned events for bike-riders as they go to and from work.

A snack station was set up at the bottom of Quincy Street and Lakeshore Drive, where commuters could get breakfast, and hot coffee to warm them up on the chilly ride.

"We were hoping we could introduce some new people to biking or commuting to work," says Margot Hutchins of the Bike Task Force.  "Give them a little extra incentive to try it, and hopefully they'll stick with it."

A bike expo is taking place downtown until 8 pm.
