To BS METER

To BS METER: Get YOUR facts strait.

A "small town school" If you knew anything, you would know that Calumet Public Schools is the U.P.'s fifth largest in enrolement behind Marquette, the Soo, Escanaba, and Newberry. And the second largest in square are behind Newberry. Also with the exception of metro Detroit, metro Lansing, and metro Grand Rapids, Calumet is the 22nd largest out of 208 schools in the state.

Your just another Marquette resident thinking they are the top of the pack.

Security

Posted by CLK Alumni, Another State - Friday, May 15, 2009 at 6:42 p.m.

Maybe this event will cause the CLK school system to re-evaluate it's security that is in place, or lack thereof. Part of the news that was shared was that their "secure mode" meant that all the exterior doors were locked. This is something that should be done on a typical everyday basis. Regardless. I work as a teacher and have recently been in several schools in the area that I live in. None are big districts. But all have security measures in place that far exceed those of the CLK district. Offices are located right at entrances. ALL exterior doors are locked, students can enter/exit through one door that is monitored. Classroom doors are closed and locked during class times. Guests are identified and escorted througout the building. As an aside, why is the main entrance at the back of the school as far as possible from any office? I understand the public library needs to be accesible, but why is there nothing to stop people from going further? Why when the building was designed was there not a seperate entrance to the library designed just for this purpose? (Oh wait, there is... it's a decoration though.) These are safe districts that have had no problems. It seems like CLK needs to learn how to be proactive, rather than reactive. Hearing about events like these makes me understand why I opted to move out of state to districts that place a higher value on student safety and security.

Concerned Parent of Students at CLK Schools

I too was concerned about what was going on at the school. I called Mr. Pierce myself. He did return my call and did not lie to me. He told me exactly what was going on and how things were being handled. Don't get me wrong, I was very worried about the situation. After talking with him, I chose to let my kids stay at school. I would like to commend him on all that he did to keep the kids safe! We always think that things like this never happen in a small community, but they do. Mr. Pierce, CLK Staff, and Police Officers did a very fine job! Thanks for keeping my kids safe!!! P.S. I was at the school. It was very secure and the majority of the teachers were there...

30 subs?

Posted by BS Meter, marquette - Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11:05 a.m.

Really, there were 30 subs today? My BS meter is ringing at an all-time high. No small school district has that many subs available to them. Quit lying to propagate your anger, you come off looking stupid

OMG Get your facts straight.

All but a few faculty and staff where at school all day yesterday and will be here all day today. They were not gone because of the threat but for any number of personal reasons. None of the children of faculty or staff were kept home because of this. Where do you get your information? It is people like you that take a situation like this and blow it out of proportion. Every precaution is being taken and the students are being kept safe. Stop making this situation worse by spreading all of these lies.

Communication

In my opinion the schools should have been a little more responsible with it's students. The school knew about this possible gun/bomb threat the day before and they had plenty of time to notify students and parents of the threat. Instead we had to hear about it through the 'grape vine'. We knew the teachers knew and the teachers knew that we knew, but nobody would talk about it. Everything was said in whispers and nobody addressed the issue directly. I would have liked if the school were a little more open with it's students.

irresponable

the school has received 3 threats and yet they still wont close. i find this very irresponsible i think anything like this should be taken very serious.

VERY UPSET WITH SCHOOL!!

Posted by Concerned Parent, Calumet, MI - Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 11:29 p.m.

I was pissed off today when I found out about the treatning note found in the bathroom. I talked to 2 school officials and they never said anything about a second note or threat. None of the school officials or teachers sent there kids to school today. There were 30 subs today because teachers didn't even want to be there. But it is okay to send other students as long as they are not school officials kids. Our school systems is not top rated in my opinion.

Clk secure school

It would of been really nice if the school would contacted everybody that evening after the message was found. It is sure a shock when one goes to a supposedly save school only to find out that they were not informed.
