MARQUETTE -- As summer approaches, not only do temperatures rise, but so do gas prices.

AAA Michigan says gas prices are up 16 cents a gallon over the past week.  The statewide average is $2.28.

In Trenary Monday, gas was $2.29.

In Marquette, which AAA says has the lowest prices in the state, TV6 found gas for $2.20.

"I think it's terrible," said Joyce Brunelle.  "It's hard on the low income people and people that go to work and that, it cost so much for them.  They don't have much for anything else."

Alec Bostwick adds, "I'm not too big of a fan of high gas prices and I have a feeling this summer they should rise up like they did last summer."

If it's a consolation, gas prices statewide are $1.56 less than last year at this time.

guess the talk about the State Attorney General investigating Marquette gas station price gouging scared a few of these crooks. Finally our prices are in line with the state average, like they should be.

Big oil buddies & BHO

Posted by citizen x, delta county - Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 3:55 p.m.

Obama and his big oil buddies are trying to get rich off oil. Ever since Bush found the way to get rich off oil in the white house, every president will do it from now on. Dont be surprised if Obama blows up some buildings somewhere to get more blood spilled for oil, because it isnt coincidence that all the radical terrorist types happen to live in oil rich countries...... What else were the libs saying over the past 8 years? There was so much crazy talk I cant recall hardly any of it. Kinda like when you hear a lot of jokes and have trouble remembering any of them. Anyway...that was my attempt at impersonating a liberal..Sound like the ramblings of a crazy person doesnt it?..... X

It's going to go up

Posted by Uh Huh, MQT - Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 7:54 a.m.

First off, what do you mean oil is "down again to about $58 a barrel?" Over the past two months the price of oil has gone up about $40/barrel to almost $60/barrel (it's already up to $59 this morning), so of course gas prices are going to increase. But what else has gone up over the past two months? The stock market. And the dollar has gotten weaker, which affect the price. But as signs are starting to emerge we are nearing the end of the recession, it's time for the oil execs to start gouging folks again and keep us down.

Hey Big Three, hurry up with those electric and hydrogen fuel cell cars already, will ya?

Strange situation

The oil prices are down again to about $58 a barrel. Why are the gas prices up again? I know last year at this time gas was about $3.85 a gallon, but this is ridiculous. Last week gas was $1.99 a gallon.

Why show a picture of gas at $3.10 a gallon?

That is misleading - why not use a photo showing an actual, current gas price at the pump?
