BESSEMER -- The future of the Blackjack Ski Resort is up in the air.  Right now the resort is not scheduled to open for the winter.

However, those with the business say they're searching hard for investors.

They say it'll be a couple of weeks before they know for sure whether they'll be skiing at Blackjack.

The hill is ready, the inspections are done, so they could open the ski hill without a lot of preparation.

There was a deal to combine all three western U.P. ski facilities--Blackjack, Big Powderhorn and Indianhead--into one group.  However, a lawsuit involving Big Powderhorn derailed those plans.

My first year of skiing was at blackjack during the 07-08 season. During the season I became more advanced with the trails at blackjack. When the news came around that blackjack was not opening the following season,I would have to go somewhere else. That place was powderhorn mt. I felt so bad that i was not used to that hill and I felt like a beginner again!!!

With season ticket sales going on right now and people making reservations for winter ski trips already, Blackjack is out of the loop this season and taking two weeks to look for investors will doom the hill. So sorry to hear, Blackjack. You are the friendliest resort in Big Snow Country and always kept your hometown values, unlike the country-club elite atmosphere a few miles to the east from you. We will miss you dearly, Blackjack! Hurry up and find a good buyer.
