Lofts on Ludington will convert old Delta Brewery building into apartments and retail space.

ESCANABA -- The new loft apartment project in downtown Escanaba is right on schedule, with hopes to finish within a year and a half.
The project, Lofts on Ludington, will add 17 new loft apartments and 3,300 square feet of retail space inside the old Delta Brewery building.
The building has been vacant since the 1940s.
Thursday, a representative from the Michigan Historic Preservation Network and the National Trust for Historic Preservation came to tour the lofts. They'll help provide resources and ideas to restore the 100-year-old building.
"Right now we're working on finishing up the floor plans, which we're hoping to have finished up by this week, and after that we'll be able to put the construction documents together and start some interior work this winter," said developer Matt Sviland.
Sviland hopes to have the entire project complete by spring of 2010.
