How is the current financial mess effecting college students?
MARQUETTE -- NMU junior, Jessica Elbe, came to the forum so she could better understand the state of our economy.
"I think it's important for students to be better informed," explained Elbe, "because we're going to be stepping out soon into the work field where it's going to hit us more concrete."
That's exactly why the Economic Students Association gathered Wednesday night. They wanted to give students the facts about what our country is facing.
"We're going to be touching on the mortgage crisis, the credit crisis, and all aspects of the bailout," said ESA Vice President Robert Doepker.
According to Doepker, the most important aspect of today's economy for college students is the credit crunch.
"We're seeing students with $7,000 worth of credit card debt; that's the national average," Doepker said. "And in a few years, in the mess that we're in, that's going to make it very hard to get a car loan or a small business loan. So it's something to be aware of now."
For students like Jessica Elbe, learning early could mean saving big in the long run.
