ESCANABA -- A new mentoring program is underway at the Escanaba Middle School.
Each eighth grader is paired with a sixth grader to mentor them and help their transition to middle school.
They kicked off the program Thursday with the inaugural tailgating party after school. Over a hundred kids came out to play games and eat hotdogs. This mentoring program is a first for the middle school.
"Our eighth graders will continue to give them tips, be good role models throughout the year; have different activities where we invited the sixth graders to join in and learn more about the middle school and some of the opportunities we have here," said eighth grade teacher, Marie Young.
The proceeds they made today will fund other mentoring programs throughout the year.
