MARQUETTE -- The first day of school is exciting for most kids, but for those entering kindergarten, it's more so as they begin their educational careers.
But some kids are getting an even earlier start by going to preschool.
"Well, the importance I think is for the children to gain and develop physical and social development skills," said parent Julianne Jacuzzo.
Experts say preschool is important for children's social transition to kindergarten, learning problem solving, and working with kids of all backgrounds.
Besides socialization skills, kids at Mister McGregor’s in Marquette are practicing how to write letters and numbers. It’s one of the first steps in reading and writing.
But educators at the Alger Marquette Community Action Board say preschool helps well beyond kindergarten.
"There's less of a drop-out rate for children who have attended preschool--less truancy, less of a tendency to get involved in illegal activities, and a greater tendency to attend institutions of higher education after high school," said AMCAB Director of Early Childhood, Marjorie Klein.
