Anti-sulfide mine protest walk rallies in the city.
MARQUETTE -- A Saginaw woman is making a trek with others from Big Bay to the Mighty Mac to help thwart Kennecott's plans to build a mine on the Yellow Dog Plains of Marquette County.
Margaret Comfort left Eagle Rock on Monday morning and has made it to Marquette, a critical checkpoint on her venture.
With the help of concerned citizens, she led a parade around the city today to help raise awareness of the sulfide mining issue.
Organizers say the best way to increase awareness is to increase discussion and public participation.
"And then come to the bridge. The biggest thing that folks can do is come on that walk," says Cynthia Pryor, a protest organizer. "If you've never done it before, now is a good time to come on the walk and do it."
The group plans to walk about 15 miles a day and hold rallies to inform the public on the issues.
