MARQUETTE -- The potential effects of metallic sulfide and uranium mining to the environment continue to spark debates.
Anti-mining activists from both the Midwest and Canada spoke to concerned citizens today at a "Protect the Earth Summit" held at NMU.
The event featured six workshops, such as: treaty rights, mining proposals and water pollution.
Organizers hope that by bringing people together, they can have a greater impact on the future of the environment.
"A lot of these speakers are sort of here to empower others to show them that we can stop projects that are very unpopular," said co-organizer Gabriel Caplett.
On Sunday -- events include, a walk to Eagle Rock in the Yellow Dog Plains, an area near Kennecott's proposed mine.
