Watching TV6 news when you want to, not just on your television, but also on your cell phone, computer, or iPod could be a part of your future.

It's those ideas that make those in the TV industry excited about the conversion to digital television.

"We can broadcast up to six channels simultaneously,” said WLUC-TV6 Chief Engineer Sonny Reschka.  “So we could have a children's program on one, or all weather, 24 hours a day, all local weather.  We could have sports, reruns of our programs..."

TV6 is multicasting right now.  We air NBC Weather Plus on a secondary channel.

In the near future, we're expanding our digital coverage area.

"In the beginning of next year, we'll be filing to increase the height of our antenna another 150 feet, which will increase our broadcast range," Reschka said.

However, with technology comes some challenges.

There have been some problems with getting converter boxes to stores in large enough numbers.  If you can't find one, click here to find phone numbers and Web sites where you can order a converter box.
