IRONWOOD -- It was a step back in time as residents became lords and ladies for the Lake Superior Renaissance Faire in Ironwood.
An estimated 1,000 people, many wearing costumes, showed up this weekend for the faire, which celebrates the Renaissance and Medieval time periods.
People could learn how to dance to Scottish country music or move their hips to belly dancing beats. For those more daring, there was axe throwing or fencing demonstrations.
"We have vendors from all over, and we have performers coming from all over,” said organizer Karen Mallum. “The Scottish dancers - they're from across the U.P. near the Soo. We have people coming as far away as California.”
For those looking for traditional faire food, not necessarily renaissance food, turkey legs and kabobs were cooked on the grill.
