MARQUETTE -- The men and women who served our country are getting some help when it comes to navigating the legal system.
On Tuesday, a mobile law office rolled into Marquette as part of Project Salute. It's staffed by attorneys and law students from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Over the past year, they've assisted more than 800 people. From pensions to disabilities, statistics show only about five percent of veterans actually get the full benefits they deserve.
"The majority of veterans we see are Vietnam-era veterans," says Margaret Costello of the Veterans Law Clinic. "Mostly what we help them with are veterans' benefit claims. Many of the veterans we see have mental or emotional problems. A lot of the Iraq vets that are coming back now have experienced head injuries."
On Wednesday, the Mobile Law Office will be in Houghton at the Michigan Tech administration building. On Thursday, it will travel to the Dickinson County Veterans Services office in Iron Mountain, and on Friday, it will be in Escanaba at the Comfort Suites and Amvets Post 123.
