ALGER COUNTY -- It was sentencing day for murderer Thomas Richardson.

Judge William Carmody handed down a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole during Monday morning proceedings in Alger County Circuit Court.

The judge offered relatives and Richardson a chance to address the court.

Janette Ellens, Juanita's sister, talked about how Richardson publicly humiliated Juanita.

Richardson in his statement, thanked God and his kids for standing by him during the course of the case.

Richardson is the downstate McBain man found guilty of first degree murder in the death of his wife at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Juanita Richardson fell from a cliff in the park, in June 2006.

After more than 12 hours of deliberation over two days, the jury on April 17 convicted Thomas Richardson.

Richardson's attorney's say an appeal is being filed.
