LANSING (AP) -- A Republican in the State Senate is expected to propose changes to rules guiding Michigan's health insurance market for individuals who aren't covered by employer or government plans.

Senator Tom George plans to go over some of his proposals at a Senate Health Policy Committee hearing on Wednesday.  George is a Republican from Kalamazoo and chairman of the committee.

The House already has passed some bills related to the individual health insurance market.  Those bills are favored by Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan but opposed by some of the company's rivals.

The Senate plan likely will be different from the House plan.  It is not clear if George's plan will be the only one proposed in the Senate.
