IRON MOUNTAIN -- Trend studies are showing Halloween was sweeter than ever this season.

According to the National Retail Federation, a record 170 million people were projected to spend as much as eight billion dollars on the holiday.  Their survey indicated 71 percent of Americans are planning to celebrate this year, up from 68 percent last year.

"We bought a bunch of candy for the trick or treaters, and for school, I'm actually picking up a veggie dip tray for a school party tomorrow," said Kingsford resident Cassie Bourassa.

The average person is estimated to spend a little under eight dollars on candy and decorations.
