NEGAUNEE TWP. -- The Michigan State Police is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration for the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
This Saturday, people have the option to take their unwanted prescription drugs to the Negaunee post, who will give them to the DEA to be incinerated.
All 29 state police posts in Michigan will be participating in the 'confidential, no questions asked' disposal.
State Police at the Negaunee post say the take back provides an opportunity for residents to decrease their chances of being involved in drug-related crime.
"It takes it off your shelves so that you will not be a target. If you don't have the prescription medication and people know they're off your shelves, you're less likely to be a victim," said Trooper Stacey Rasanen of the Michigan State Police.
The take back runs on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Experts never suggest flushing prescription drugs down the toilet as it can harmfully affect the environment.
