In exchange for harmful cleaning products, they gave out an alternative that's both cheaper to produce, and safer for the environment
MUNISING -- If you're a user of commercial chemical cleaners, you could be putting the environment in danger.
The 4-H Youth Conservation Council offered local residents a solution, this weekend, at the Alger Home, Sport, and Craft show. In exchange for harmful cleaning products, they gave out an alternative that's both cheaper to produce, and safer for the environment.
"If they exchange it here then we take it to a landfill and make sure it's processed out right so that it doesn't get into our water. And with this chemical, if it's dumped down the drain, it's safe for people and animals," Rebecca Pirman of the 4-H club said.
The mixture of white vinegar and water could be used on dirty household surfaces. It cleans away soap scum, rust, and many other kinds of grime. They'll give away more samples on April 21 at another show in Chatham.
