MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- The Upper Peninsula Petroleum Association says a proposed tribal gas station in Marquette Township will result in lost jobs and tax revenue.
That's according to the findings of a study released Tuesday by a Western Michigan University economics professor and Keip Government Solutions.
It said a KBIC gas station on the site of the former Los Tres Amigos restaurant could result in the loss of 63 jobs and $11 million in annual in-store sales. It should be noted that the study was commissioned by the Petroleum Association which represents 35 gas retailers in the U.P.
Governor Snyder's office recently voiced its opposition to the station saying it presented unlawful competition to other tax paying businesses.
The tribe has said their gas station is perfectly legal and would not threaten other businesses. They plan to move forward with the project.
