MARQUETTE -- Michigan's economy is growing.

At Northern Michigan University Thursday,  the President of the Citizens Research Council of Michigan, Jeffery Guilfoyle said the state is making a comeback, but there's still a long way to go.

Michigan's budget is now balanced, and in better shape than it has been in previous years.

Over the last two years more jobs have been added.

"Growth is a real positive thing that's a real good change but the growth is slow so there's not enough money to restore all the cuts we've made over the last several years so budget makers have to decide how much to save for the future how much to spend to replace existing cuts," said Guilfoyle.

He says Marquette County is doing relatively well economically compared to the rest of the state.  He said southeast lower Michigan is still trying to recover from steep losses in the auto industry following the financial crisis.
