MARQUETTE -- Tax season is here, and if you haven't started filing your returns or if you don't know where to start, Northern Michigan University can help.

Every Sunday, students from Beta Alpha Psi will hold a free four-hour tax assistance session. Not only does the free program help members of the community, it also gives students majoring in accounting, hands-on experience in financial situations.

"Because of the way the program is set up, we're relieving a little bit of a burden on individuals who normally have to go to either a tax professional or H&R Block or a program like that to pay to have their taxes done, so it's kind of a financial relief to individuals," said Joey Short of Beta Alpha Psi.

Students will be available every Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Shiras Room at the Peter White Public Library. The deadline to file your 2012 federal and state taxes is Monday, April 15.
