MARQUETTE -- Noquemanon Race Director Jon Mommaerts received some recognition for helping to bring adaptive skiing to the race.

Mommaerts accepted a plaque from the Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL).

He worked with other race organizers to set up a 3k and 500-meter race for the physically disabled.  This gave many the chance to compete for the first time.

"That was very nice. They're very appreciative and so are we. They don't even have to do that we're going to continue to do it. Our mission is to support all types of skiers, and they fall into that category, so we're going to make it work," said Mommaerts.

After the presentation, they discussed ways to make next year's race better.  Noque organizers are hoping to have more volunteers help with the sit ski race to give each participant their own spotter.
