MARQUETTE -- A room full of people at St. Mark's Lutheran Church gathered in song to get in the spirit of Thanksgiving. They all came to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.

"The fellowship. Meeting some new people. It's been fun and it's been a blessing, all at the same time," said Pamela Engelsman, a guest.

Several volunteers came together to prepare this meal. They have put in long hours during the week to make it happen.

Guests got everything from turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and more.

"To see so many people happy. You look out there where they are sitting now; people are talking to a neighbor they didn't know they had," said Edith Prosen, Coordinator.

It gives people who are alone or those who aren't cooking an opportunity to sit, enjoy some good food, and meet new people.

Marcia Benson is from Canada and says this was a great place for those from out of town on emergencies.

"My brother took sick and I had to get here. In the middle of our circumstances, that are very hard to be able to go out and have a real Thanksgiving dinner with people who care, it's awesome," said Benson.

Seeing volunteers dedicate their time for this leaves an impact on many.

"We have a lot to be thankful for in this country. This is still the best country in the world, and I'm proud to be an American," said John Hongisto, a guest.

The dinner was made possible by donations from the community.

Volunteers served more than 125 people.
