HOUGHTON -- Toys for Tots is distributing toys at the Copper Country Mall in Houghton. They have been handing out gifts since Wednesday afternoon and will be at the mall again Friday afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m.
This year 187 families and 449 children were given toys for Christmas in Houghton county.
The Marine Corps has a list of families for whom they put bags of toys together.
There were collection spots all across the Copper Country. The donations only from Houghton county are being distributed at the mall.
“I like helping out the community as much as I can,” said Marine Sergeant Erick Baccus. “The Marine Corps, which I am a member of, asked me to participate in this, and I greatly volunteered for it. Just helping out the community and handing out gifts to families that need it.”
Toys for Tots is a nationwide charity event put on by the U.S. Marine Corps.
