MARQUETTE -- Planning continues for a major building project at NMU.

The school's Board of Trustees received an update on the plans for Jamrich Hall at their meeting Friday morning. The new building will cost over $33 million and is paid for by capital funding through the State of Michigan.

Plans include several lecture spaces and areas for students to gather and work between classes.  It will replace the old Jamrich hall, which was built in 1969.

"There hasn't been a lot of updates to the building since it's been built.  There's been a lot of changes in the way instruction is delivered, and this new building will accommodate those new pedagogies," said NMU Engineer, Jim Thams.

Groundbreaking is expected to take place next April, with the building opening for the fall semester of 2014.

Also at the meeting, the board recognized two outgoing members, Chairman Brian Cloyd and Vice Chairman Jack LaSalle.
