NORWAY -- With children, positive reinforcement can be very influential.

Norway Elementary School is taking steps to make sure their students are receiving that message.

Wednesday at a school assembly, students were awarded for their excellence.  Physical fitness, academic, art, and music were among the categories.  The school also recognizes the importance of making a student feel accepted and appreciated.

Parents were also in attendance as students were rewarded for good behavior.

"And we know that recognizing positive behavior increases positive behavior through the classroom and in the school building as well, so it's just a way to recognize children being good and hoping to increase those behaviors throughout the school," said Fourth Grade Teacher Joanne Cowell.

The positive reinforcement at the school is something teachers say will always be a priority.
