HOUGHTON (AP) -- A Midwest storm is expected to bring snow to Michigan, with more than a foot forecast for parts of the Upper Peninsula.

The National Weather Service says the storm is expected to move across the area starting Monday night, with 3 to 6 inches possible. Snow is to continue Tuesday and Wednesday, with an additional 6 to 20 inches expected during that time near Houghton, Baraga and the Porcupine Mountains.

Heavy lake-effect snow is expected along Lake Superior. Occasional white-out conditions are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the western side of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, rain changing to snow is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of snow. Additional snow is expected Tuesday. On the eastern side of the Lower Peninsula, including the Detroit area, some snow also is possible.
