IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Kingsford woman who pled guilty to smuggling drugs while in jail was sentenced on Tuesday in Dickinson County court.

Twenty-seven-year-old Stacey Hupp was charged with possession of contraband while incarcerated. In circuit court on Tuesday she was sentenced to nine months in jail with a year and six months probation.

She says her mistake has made her remorseful, and she wants to participate in the 90 day inpatient program available to her.

"I really don't have a good excuse, except, you know, I do have medical conditions that initially started my drug use, and that with controlled substances, they've been a part of my life for a long time and I just hope to move on," said Hupp.

The judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney all agreed that if she doesn't make a change, she could face more jail time and lead a dangerously unhealthy life.
