Gogebic Community College opens campus doors

HOUGHTON -- Gogebic Community College (GCC) opened its own campus doors for the first time on Saturday.

The college has been offering courses for over 20 years, however, all their classes were at night with local school partnerships.

College officials say high day-class demands was what pushed them to open their own facility which is located inside the Copper Country Mall in Houghton.

"We started looking about a year ago for an additional facility," said GCC President Jim Lorenson. "We have great expectations of additional coursework as we move forward."

The renovations only took approximately three months to complete and cost $400,000.

The new facility has six classrooms including a computer, nursing and science lab.
