Michigan Tech's Day of Challenges puts kids through mentally and physically challenging obstacles

MARQUETTE -- Michigan Tech's Day of Challenges stands by its name, encouraging kids to go above and beyond their limits. Nearly 150 kids dove into mentally and physically challenging obstacles feet first.

"It’s just been a really big experience for me," says Corah Bergman, 10. "I have never done anything like this before. I run a lot and swim a lot, but this was much funner."

The annual event focuses on one major goal:  teamwork.

"What we really want to focus on is being able to build that team aspect and team dynamic," explains MTU ROTC cadet, Aaron Wierschke. "That's really important in the workforce and in life in general. So, we really wanted to get them focused in on that now and being able to work together."

Kids are deliberately put into groups so if they feel like giving up, they can motivate each other to keep going.

"It really teaches us to have a lot of trust," insists 15-year-old Larry Rajala.

And when the going got tough, ROTC cadets were solid pillars pushing the tough to keep going.
