MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Senior Center could soon be on the move. At Monday's City Commission meeting the Senior Center task force gave a presentation that highlighted the current state of the Senior Center. According to the task force the center has become outdated and faces a number of problems including lack of parking and accessibility. They also presented a proposal to move the Senior Center into Lakeview Arena and create an addition.

"There's a number of good reasons for that, one is that there is a lot of inter-generational activity going on in that area already and that's a goal that we were trying to achieve is to integrate the Senior Center into more of a community center type setting," said Jake Guter of U.P. Engineers and Architects.

The estimated cost of moving the senior center with an addition is more than $500,000. A brand new center would cost more than one million dollars. The city is still discussing which would be the best option and how to pay for it.
