Tip-Up Town casts off in Sagola

SAGOLA -- The 39th Annual Sagola Township Sportsmen's Club Tip-Up Town of the U.P. casted off Saturday.

The only rules at the ice fishing contest on Sawyer Lake was if you can hold a pole, you can enter. Kids as young as three joined the hundreds of residents on the lake for the contest.

Warmer temperatures helped participants be patient throughout the competition, however, residents say the biggest prize wasn’t from catching the biggest fish.

"I come out a lot because I do it for the kids," says Sagola resident, Rob Whitney. "The kids catch fish and have fun."

The event also had wood carving at the Sagola Sportsmen’s Club along with a craft show.
