A cold front is coming, and it will help restore our weather to something more seasonable. The same front may cause some severe weather in Arkansas and surrounding states. It entered the western UP early Saturday morning. Track its position here (the image updates every few hours).

Look for a mild start to Saturday with highs in the low 40s, but highs will be reached early in the day ahead of the cold front. Temps will be down into the 30s by mid afternoon for most of the UP as it moves eastward. Skies will be mostly cloudy becoming more overcast with the front. A few flurries are possible along the front, but the main issue is lake effect snow as strong winds shift out of the northwest later in the afternoon.

For Saturday, the National Weather Service has issued Lake Effect Snow Advisories for Keweenaw, Ontonagon, and northern Houghton counties that will last through late Sunday night. Several inches of snow are likely in those areas Saturday night into Sunday night. Alger county eastward should also see some significant snowfall,  but not as much.

The NWS has also issued Wind Advisories for Keweenaw and northern Houghton counties. Winds Saturday could gust in excess of 40 mph, greatly enhancing the wind chill.

For Saturday night, look for overcast skies with lake effect snow in the northwest wind snow belts. Lows will mainly fall into the 10s to 0s inland. Winds should decrease somewhat.

Sunday will see more seasonable highs in the upper 10s to low 20s. Expect moderate to heavy lake effect snowfall in the northwest wind snowbelts. The Keweenaw will easily see at least 4" in the morning and afternoon with more in the evening. That's where the heaviest snow will be.

Sunday night will see continued snowfall with lows in the 10s. Monday will see similar temperatures and even more continued lake effect snow, but less than Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday should warm up a few more degrees, but with more snow.
