Semi truck destroyed in fire

RAPID RIVER -- An early morning fire resulted in a destroyed a semi truck.

The Michigan State Police reported that the fire happened on US-2, one mile south of Rapid River, at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The driver of the truck, 56-year-old Robert Lustila of Germfask, heard a loud bang and pulled over.

He found flames shooting four feet from the truck's chimney stack and under the hood. Lustila was not able to put out the fire, and the 2010 International semi truck, owned by WJZ & Sons Harvesting, was completely destroyed.

The load of logs being hauled was transferred to another vehicle. US-2 was shut down for about three hours for crews to respond.
