We are still roughly 20" below average for the season, but the next few days should help with that. Saturday is likely to see light lake effect snow under a breezy northwest wind most of the day. Snow could accumulate 1" to 4" in the northwest wind snowbelts over the course of the entire day. Highs will be in the mid 20s.
Saturday night will see continued snowfall near Lake Superior, but it should end from west to east overnight as the winds shift. Skies will partly cloudy to mostly clear away from the lake. Lows will be in the 10s, but coldest inland with 0s.
On Sunday, temps will also climb into the 20s for seasonable highs. There may be a few flurries, but skies should only be mostly to partly cloudy. Sunday night will be overcast with lows in the 10s.
For New Years Eve Monday, snow is looking very likely as a cold front passes. There should be some scattered snow showers early, but most of the day and night (as well as Tuesday) look to be a lake effect snow event where we could see several inches of snow. Temperatures will also take a dive with lows in the single digits for most of the UP.
